Prime Minister's statement on Idlib crisis

The crisis in the rebel-controlled "Greater Idlib" region in northwestern Syria has escalated over the past month, following an offensive by the Syrian government against the rebel stronghold and growing involvement by both Turkey and Russia. On 20 February, two Turkish soldiers were killed in an airstrike. Yesterday, a large amount of Turkish soldiers were also killed in an airstrike on a army HQ in the Idlib countryside (at least 30+ confirmed casualties according to the Governor of Hatay Province). This has been the largest amount of deaths of Turkish soldiers during their involvement in the Syrian civil war. Russia has been alleged to have been behind both incidents, although this cannot yet be confirmed. Turkey has been threatening for the past month to launch a large-scale military offensive against the advancing Syrian government forces, demanding they return to the previous ceasefire lines according to the "Sochi Agreement". The growing tensions caused by the crisis in Idlib could potentially escalate to a full-scale war, dragging Russia and Turkey into direct conflict.
Prime Minister Hasan Çakar has issued the following statement on the matter:
"Firstly, let me issue my condolences to the families of the Turkish martyrs and the Turkish nations. The airstrike that occurred yesterday was an unnecessary and escalatory act. Who is the perpetrator of this airstrike is unknown, although it is so far generally believed to be Russia. If this is true, this is very alarming because this means that Turkish and Russian forces are directly fighting each other. The situation in Idlib is getting out of hand and all sides must de-escalate not escalate the situation. It is not in anyone's interest that this conflict turns into open war, regardless of its scope. A ceasefire and return to efforts for demilitirisation of this area is the best solution. Even if open war does not break out, no one wants the situation between Turkey and Russia to return to the state of tensions following the shoot-down of the Russian jet in 2015. It has proven after their reconciliation in 2016 that Russian-Turkish friendship and co-operation is better for the region's stability, during which numerous local ceasefire and peace agreements were implemented in Syria and the fight was concentrated on terror groups like KCK-PKK-YPG and Daesh. We urge both sides to maintain co-operation, lines of communication and work to de-escalate the tensions rather than further escalate the situation. Finally, I want to reiterate that the Hasani government believes the only solution to the Syrian conflict is a peace deal between the Government of Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian opposition."

Shahanshah re-appoints Çakar as head of government; appoints Kınık representative and new Sheikh-al-Islam

Yesterday, His Majesty Shahanshah Deñiz I enacted a Royal Edict acknowledging the results of the election, selecting Prime Minister Çakar to continue his premiership, appointing the local representatives including in the tied district of Kınık and also appointing a new Sheik-al-Islam.
The Edict describes the People's Unity Party as the winners of the election due to both winning the most seats and gaining the most popular votes, thus allowing Prime Minister Hasan Çakar to continue his tenure as he commands both the confidence of the Mejlis and the Nation.
The victors of the elections for representatives were also formally appointed to their respective positions as deputies, beginning the legal existence of Hasanistan's first elected Mejlis composition. The representative of Kınık, a district where the election result was tied, has been selected to People's Unionist candidate in that election Chase Mahoning. This gives the People's Unity Party a majority of three seats against two unaffiliated seats, requiring that they do not necessarily need a. However, it is believed that the alliance between the pre-monarchy Northern League and the People's Unity Party continues thus the decision will have minimal significance for the government's plans.
The Honourable Sheik-al-Islam Muhammed Ali has also been replaced by the Edict, with the new Sheik-al-Islam being Mustafa Abu Ali ibn Qasim. The decision seems to be a simple matter of merit, believing that Mustafa Abu Ali ibn Qasim would serve within this position more successfully.

Full results of 2020 Mejlis election released

The polls for the 2020 Mejlis election, Hasanistan's first legislative election, have closed and the results have been revealed after the official count by the Hasani government. The election received an almost complete turnout of 92.86%, with thirteen voters out of the registered fourteen having voted in the election. However, controversies have arisen within the Deñizabat, a district which had full turnout, after two additional ballots were counted. The matter has been investigated and those ballots which have verified to have originated from ineligible sources have been declared void. Further investigations may be held.
The People's Unity Party have won the most seats within the election, having won in both Deñizabat and Nun, while the Northern League and an independent candidate were also both elected within their constituencies. The seat of Kınık has ended in a complex situation where both candidates tied, meaning His Majesty the Shahanshah must appoint a candidate for the constituency. Despite this, the results have produced a plurality for the People's Unionists within the future Mejlis and they may potentially gain a majority from the decision in Kınık. Prime Minister Hasan Çakar is set to release a statement declaring victory and discussing the election. It is also extremely likely that he shall be picked to continue holding the office for the Hasani prime ministership.
