Hasanistani President Hasan Çakar has sent his condolences to the Chadian government following reports of the assassination of long-time President Idriss Déby. According to the BBC, the strongman who has ruled since the 1990s was killed commanding government forces against a northern rebel group known as the "Front for Change and Concord in Chad" (FACT). Hasanistan has maintained its full neutrality in this civil conflict, abiding by its general policy of state neutrality, but issued calls for a peaceful settlement. The President has offered himself as a negotiator.
The full statement by the President reads:
"We send our condolence for the toppling of the Chad President. He was controversial, but he must have been a good man to rule the Chads. We hope that peace can come to Chads as quickly as possible. I can negotiate peace in Chad if all sides wish."
