Maduro wins the first Union Peace Prize

Nicholas Maduro, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, has been awarded the first "Union of Brennonia and Hasanistan Peace Prize". The peace prize is organised by the Union, an international organisation focused on cooperation between its two member states (Hasanistan and Brennonia). The peace prize is notably the first program of the Union to have occured.

Maduro was officially awarded the prize because  "he is a proud champion for world peace and stood up to Donald Trump". The decision was made by Chase Mahoning, the head of the Union, Acting President of Hasanistan, King of Brennonia and the person who came up with the idea for the prize, and Hasan Çakar.

Maduro has served as President of Venezuela since 2013, the successor of leftist populist Hugo Chavez. Maduro is accused by domestic opposition and international critics of authoritarianism, corruption and involvement in the drug trade. He has been prominent in recent weeks after a rise in tensions with the United States, with rumours that President Trump is planning to invade or overthrow Maduro's government. During this time, Maduro has been saying at rallies "No war, just peace" in broken English and singing songs such as John Lennon's "Imagine" or "Don't Worry Be Happy".

During Trump's previous presidential terms, Hasanistan condemned what it saw as interference in Venezuelan affairs by the United States.

Hasanistan, officially the Federal Republic of Hasanistan (Hasani: Hasanistan Federal Jumhuriyeti), is a self-proclaimed state with territorial claims situated across the Greater Middle East region. Hasanistan has been described as a micronation or an alternative government by external observers due to its lack of international recognition and the minimal control over the regions it holds territorial claims upon.
