Acting Prime Minister Hasan Çakar has issued a statement on the aerial attacks launched by Israel on targets in Iran, describing them as a "violation of sovereignty", an "escalation" and part of "Israel's destructive pattern". The Acting Prime Minister called on all parties in the region to refrain from further escalatory actions and expressed support for the current negotiations between the United States and Iran over the contentious nuclear issue, as well as confirming that the Hasanistani government was monitoring the situation and taking measures to protect its own territories and the citizens in the Gulf of Hasanistan (known also as the Persian or Arabian Gulf or the Basra Gulf).
The Acting Prime Minister's statement reads as follows:
"Hasanistan is deeply concerned about the Israeli attacks on Iran. The attacks are a violation of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran and a major escalation, which may lead to a devastating war. These acts follow the same dangerous destructive pattern that Israel has been following in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
While Hasanistan recognises the responsibility for countries to defend themselves, the attacks need to end and all parties need to refrain from making the situation worse. There especially must not be an expansion of this dispute into other countries. Hasanistan supports a return to the efforts of the United States to seek a peaceful settlement over the nuclear issue through negotiations.
Hasanistan is monitoring the situation, which we currently believe is ongoing. We are also prepared to support the sovereign Hasanistani territory of Körfeziye and our citizens in the Gulf of Hasanistan region, to ensure their safety."
The Israeli aerial campaign has targeted the Iranian political and military leadership, nuclear sites, military installations and air defence systems, causing the confirmed deaths of a number of major Iranian political figures. Civilians have also reported to have died in the attacks. The strikes came following reported breakdowns in the US-Iran negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, as as the continuing wider regional political tensions which have emerged from the war in Gaza.
