Mejlis votes down controversial dual citizenship law

The Mejlis has voted against a controversial reform to dual citizenship which would have restricted citizens from holding citizenship in only two unrecognised states and "micronations" (including Hasanistan), which had been proposed by Naib-i-Şehinşah and Prime Minister Hasan Çakar. It also allowed exceptions to be made by the government and courts, allowing certain citizens to have more than two non-macronational citizenships. The reform was rejected by 3 in opposition 2 in support and no abstentions.

Tablekitten of the Moralist Party was appointed as a Mejlis deputy during the voting, a controversial move which some considered as Çakar attempting to force through the act. After the law, Natsuki Hegro criticised the matter and renounced his citizenship in protest of the law even being proposed. Chase Mahoning also lost his citizenship due to tensions over the matter.

About us

Hasanistan, officially the Federal Republic of Hasanistan (Hasani: Hasanistan Federal Jumhuriyeti), is a self-proclaimed state with territorial claims situated across the Greater Middle East region. Hasanistan has been described as a micronation or an alternative government by external observers due to its lack of international recognition and the minimal control over the regions it holds territorial claims upon.
