Turanfest song contest held to commemorate Hasanistan's established; Chase Mahoning wins with "abstract" entry

On 11 September, the Turanfest Song Festival was held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Hasanistan's establishment on 7 September and to celebrate the culture and interests of Hasanistani citizens. The contest, modelled on the Swedish Melodifestivalen, had the public and select "expert judges" vote to decide the winning songs. It was organised, recorded and broadcast by the broadcaster Voice of Hasanistan, with Karadağ in Köktuğluk as the ceremonial host (although the event was held entirely virtually).

Sixteen songs were entered, not all were by Hasanistani artists but were rather requested to be entered. However, three songs ("Oppan Hasanistan Style", "Ik Ben Turk (Nightcore Remix)" and "Nonsense Screamed Into A Microphone") were made by Hasanistani citizens. Some of the entries, such as "Potato Pride" and "Music is Haram", were entered under fictitious names, bands or organisations.

Viewers from Hasanistan, Konraq, other Batyr Bloc states and Pavlov were allowed to vote on the songs, while expert jurors also ranked them. Scoring followed the typical 1-12 (excluding 9 and 11) points model used in Eurovision. The top 10 songs in the public vote ranked by number of votes would be allocated a score equivalent to their popular support. The full results from the broadcast of the Contest may be seen in the video below:

Chase Mahoning's "Nonsense Screamed Into the Microphone" won in an exciting battle for the top with 20 points, while "Ik Ben Turk (Nighcore Remix)" by Thisispostironicsociety come second with 19 and "Oppan Hasanistan Style (2020 Version)" by the National Orchestra come third with 18. Four entries got nil points.

Mahoning and his song will now represent Hasanistan at the 2nd Microvision Song Contest in Pinang, organised by TV Belcity. Hasanistan will appear in semi-final one, which will be held on 18 December. If Hasanistan advances, it will be in the grand final on 1 January 2022. Additionally, the runner-up song may represent Hasanistan if a "summertime" TVB Microvision is held later in 2022.

The full contest may be watched on Hasanistan's official Odysee, Minds and Bitchute accounts, although not on Youtube due to potential copyright issues.
