2026 MicroWorld Cup: Hasanistan advances as group stage nears end

As the group stage nears its third and planned final week, co-host Hasanistan successfully qualified for the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Parasolia in its last group game. Hasanistan has now won its group with officially three victories and, with today's victory and the previous 11-2 trouncing of New Oplaya, a robust goal difference of +12.

While the score was 3-0, Hasanistan's player Hasan Çakar said that Parasolia was not an easy opponent. Parasolia's offensive play managed to put Hasanistan on the defensive, including an impressive chance on goal in their kick-off after Hasanistan's third goal, although they could not ultimately penetrate Hasanistan's defence. However, Hasanistan showed good manoeuvrability in its attack and managed to outflank the Parasolian player for each goal. Hasanistan even nearly scored a fourth in the final period, prevented by a decent Parasolian defence.

A replay of the game between Hasanistan and Parasolia can be viewed here on the HBY YouTube channel.

Çakar described the game as a good test run for Hasanistan's knockout journey. As Group A winners, the co-host country will face the winner of the playoff between the second- and fifth-best second-placed teams. Hasanistan has so far been confirmed to be joined with the winners of Group B and E, Stanland and Mahuset respectively. The other competing co-host Brennonia has won two of its group stage, guaranteeing it at least a second-placed finish.

Current group stage standings

Regarding the other groups and participants:

  • The tournament saw two withdrawals, Gora Mira of Group A withdrew citing internal instability and Knuffeldierland of Group E withdrew due to "technical issues". Both team's games have been declared walkovers and considered victories by forfeit for their respective opponents.
  • Group A: With Hasanistan's two victories and Gora Mira's withdrawal, Parasolia and New Oplaya are now locked into a decider match for second-place.
  • Group B: The first group is be completed and now considered the "group of death" due to the strong performance by its top three teams. Stanland managed to top the group with close victories over Tymbarc (6-4) and Kipstania (2-1 in extra time), as well as a 14-0 domination of the Pearson Republic in the tournament's current record largest victory. Stanland's success has earned them the reputation of tournament favourites. Tymbarc and Kipstania fought the final battle of their group, in a game that has been dubbed the "game of the tournament" (so far), where Tymbarc eventually triumphed to earn second-place.
  • Group C: A 12-0 trouncing of Kustia and a confident 4-0 victory over Alpecona has set up co-host Brennonia in a position of likely winning their group. Alpecona earned a tight 1-0 win against Kustia, likely eliminating the Kustians. Arlandica has yet to play.
  • Group D: Group D has currently not yet played a game.
  • Group E: Mahuset has qualified with triumphs over Hortania and Ludzervik. Most notably, Mahuset surprised fans as it humiliated rival Hortania 12-1 in a highly anticipated derby match, which has led to Hortania accusing the Mahusetans of cheating (regarded as fake news by Batyr Times fact checkers). Hortania and Ludzervik are set to face off in a decisive game for second-place.
